Application for CCW Permit

Posted on: September 12, 2022

[ARCHIVED] Application for CCW Permit

The Baldwin Park Police Department (BPPD) is aware of the June 2022, United States Supreme Court ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen concerning the issuance of public carry licenses.  We are assessing the Bruen decision and forthcoming amendments to California’s CCW statutes.

The Baldwin Park Police Department’s existing policy 207 is posted on our website.  Previously, City of Baldwin Park residents interested in obtaining a CCW had been referred to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (“LASD”) to process CCW applications.

Effective August 1, 2022, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will no longer process CCW applications for the City of Baldwin Park and other municipalities. Any CCW application submitted to LASD prior to August 1, 2022, will continue to be processed by LASD, and any renewals of previously authorized CCWs will be processed by LASD.

Part of the legal CCW permit process is the utilization of California Department of Justice authorized forms. Law enforcement agencies have been told that due to the recent Bruen decision, California DOJ is currently updating the CCW application form (BOF4012). We will monitor California DOJ’s progress on the revisions, which is anticipated to be completed by September 2022.

In the meantime, BPPD is currently developing policy/procedures to process CCW applications and the issuance of licenses. Please continue to monitor our department website for updated information about this process.
